We won the 2013 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award and we really weren’t expecting to! First, huge congratulations to all the other winners of the various awards, all the nominees and to many, many others who weren’t there. Secondly, thanks must also go to everyone who has supported us so far by coming to gigs and buying the album. Some people even came up to Glasgow to see live if we’d won! Special thanks to our parents and to Kelda Manley and to Paul and Linda Adams at Fellside records. It was an amazing night that followed from a great weekend at the ‘semi finals’ in Kendal in October. We thoroughly enjoyed playing live on Radio 2, seeing many friends and meeting new ones and of course, winning. Ciaran’s speech was described as the best of the night and Greg’s shirt got at least two pieces of good feedback! You can watch the whole ceremony on iPlayer HERE and listen to the whole ceremony (which includes our live R2 interval performance) HERE. The Live recording was played again on Simon Mayo’s evening BBC show the day after the awards.
It starts what is set to be a really exciting year for us. We start gigging at the beginning of April and don’t really stop until October! The farthest north we go is Falkirk (Greg will play solo in Glenfarg!) and we’ll be as far south as Exeter, Kent and Sussex with very many places in between so we’ll probably be playing near you. These gigs include the festivals we get as a ‘reward’ for winning the BBC Young Folk Award which are Cropredy, Cambridge and Towersey. As well as this, we’ll be recording our second album at Fellside which will be released in 2014.
Thanks again for all of the support, go and watch/listen to the 2013 Folk Awards, buy the album, follow us on Twitter and Facebook, and come and see us and say hello somewhere in 2013. It’s looking like it’s going to be a smasher!
