Review of The Queens Lover
R2 Magazine - Colin Bailey - 11th November 2012
The press coverage and folk club reports have been glowing and rightly so, on hearing the first CD from this young duo. Greg and Ciaran are a mere nineteen and sixteen years old respectively. You would not guess it, on listening to the accomplished singing and playing. They are indeed seasoned performers, Greg also playing solo and Ciaran a member of the Celtic-based Yound Folk Award semi-finalist band, TRI. Above all the maturity of the vocal delivery stands out. The songs “Two Magicians” (Jonny Dyer’s tune) and “Love is Life” (written by Mick Ryan) in particular showcase this. A fine mixture of tracks is assembled on the record, variously learned from folk clubs, family and friends.
Paul Adams at Fellside has an ear for a class act and recognises the quality delivered through Greg’s naturalness and conviction along with Ciaran’s talent. Their website highlights the fact that they have “a lot of fun” out playing. Not only their prodigious skill but also their enthusiasm and enjoyment will take them far.
